The focus of Le-Ba is to promote positive community

To start, I would like to thank the Bundjalung People, the traditional custodians, both past and present for allowing us to use their land.

I would also like to recognise and thank all Foundation Members Presidents and Life Members along with the committees and individuals that have worked tirelessly over the years to build and establish Le-Ba as one of Australia’s Premium Boardriding Clubs.

Our great club was founded in November 1980 by a small group of surfers from Lennox Head and Ballina.  It was agreed the club would be called Le-Ba Boardriders Inc.

The club held monthly rounds with the focus in the early days about going surfing, having fun and drinking beers (nothing has changed in that regard).

In 1981 the club competed in its first interclub teams competition with the Le-Ba boys more then holding their own against the best surfers from the other clubs…..this was the beginning of our successful participation in teams competition.
Over the past 36 years Le-Ba has established itself as one of Australia’s most successfully competitive clubs. Also in that time produced some super hot competitive surfers who have competed in National and International events…..with some having won overseas events on the WQS.

Competitions are about everyone joining in

Our strong Junior Development and Coaching Program is in place to assist our kids both male & female to improve all facets of their surfing and competitive skills. The program also teaches them surf etiquette and respect in and out of the water along with abiding by the clubs Code of Conduct.

We were one of the first clubs in Australia to set up a separate division for our Groms aged 5 to 10 years of age which we call Little Le-Ba. Their round is held on Sunday the day after Le-Ba holds their monthly Saturday round.

The most exciting project the club has ever taken on and certainly the one I’m most proud of came about in 2012 when the landmark decision was made thanks to the brainstorming of three committee members who came up with the idea to run a Junior event. From that idea the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open was founded. The event is now acknowledged, as the best of its kind in Australasia.

Something else I’m very proud of is our effect as a community minded club each year participating in speciality events raising money for local charities and needy causes.

In closing, I would like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors the local community and business houses for their consistent support which we very much appreciated. Finally a huge shout out goes to my hard working and supportive committee and all our loyal members.

Kind Regards

Don Munro
